Review
The Limestone 4 fills that gap between basic 4p tents and premium options. Marmot focused on creating a high-quality tent using a classic design. Because of that, it fits well within the budget of casual campers who want a step up from entry-level four-person tents.
Comfort
Providing the basics, this is where the Marmot Limestone 4 really shines. It is created for smaller groups of friends or family members who want protection and comfort after a fun day in the camp.
The interior floor area is around 60 square feet. This will comfortably fit four average-sized individuals. The poles are created to maximize the interior space to up to about the shoulder height.
However, the peak height is a slight letdown. At just a little over 60 inches, it is a bit short for most people to move around. But, the tent provides more than enough space for friends to hang out inside.
Fortunately, the tent comes with two vestibules when the rainfly is up. The front and back vestibules provide extra living spaces and storage. They are large enough to make getting in and getting out of the tent easy.
The ceiling is made of 40-denier polyester no-see-um mesh. This makes it a perfect tent for stargazing at night or taking in the view during the day. The full-mesh front door also maximizes your view.
The back door is made of 68-denier polyester taffeta, which is opaque. This provides excellent privacy at the back.
The Limestone 4 also comes with enough storage pockets to organize your things. There are four on the top and two on the lower side of the interior. The small pockets under the doors are nice additions for stashing small items. There’s also a valuables pocket by the front vestibule, which is practically hidden.
Ease of Setup
Any casual camper with enough experience in pitching tents will be familiar with the classic design of the Limestone 4. It comes with two main structure poles the crosses at the apex. This serves as the sturdy foundation of the tent.
Classic does not mean totally old school. The tent comes with two curved clip-in poles that are more common with modern tent designs. They pull the walls to provide better stability and increase the shoulder space inside the tent.
Weather Resistance
The three-season tent provides excellent protection and comfort using its double-walled design. The rain fly repels water effectively, and the overall dome design ensures that it will not sag towards the inner canopy.
Additionally, the fly covers the tent all the way down to the ground. This secures the tent from leakage or splashdowns, especially during heavy rainfall.
You also do not have to worry about the ventilation when the main hatches are fully closed. The vents provide enough ventilation to minimize any condensation inside.
Durability
The Marmot Limestone 4 is not the most premium tent out there. However, its superb design and construction are a step above any entry-level 4P tent.
It comes with DA17 aluminum alloy poles that are strong enough to support its entire weight without bending. The tent fly and floor are also fully seam-taped. Along with the thick fabric, you won’t need to worry about leakage at all.
One issue with the tent, however, is the stakes. They bend easily, especially on dry ground. As such, you may want to purchase extra ones just in case.
Weight and Packed Size
At about 11 lbs. 11 oz., the tent is relatively lighter than its contemporaries. You will have no problem taking it to your camp, even if you have to walk a trail.
It comes with a tubular storage stuff sack which is a classic. At around 28 inches long, it is a decent fit, and you will not have a problem squeezing it in your car.
