Review
The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 manages to balance high-performance and lightweight materials. Here are some features that make it a great two-person tent.
Comfort
The Copper Spur HV UL2 has successfully achieved being spacious and lightweight. It is a great compromise for people who usually go backpacking together without sacrificing a roomy headroom and large entryways.
It also features two zipper tracks which is a unique touch. The zippers are conveniently at the right spot, especially if you want to reach out something from the vestibule.
The tent is 88 inches long, and 52 inches wide that tapers down to 42 inches. While it is cozy around the foot area, the pre-bent poles maximize the interiors. Additionally, it creates ample lateral space at 40 inches in height.
This makes it quite easy to sit up. Also, the 29 square feet floor area means you and your companion can spread out comfortably.
The tent comes with two vestibules at around nine square feet each. They are enough to protect your shoes and a sizeable pack. It also comes with a large overhead pocket which is great for gear that you do not want lying around.
Another pocket is located at the foot end as well. The side pockets are great for smaller stuff like phones, chargers, or flashlights.
The Copper Spur HV UL2 also includes privacy panels. While it tapers from head to foot, it is enough to maintain your privacy from most angles.
Ease of Setup
The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 is quite easy to set up. It comes with an interconnected pole structure as well as a cross pole that holds much of the headroom. The tent is completely free-standing, which makes it easy to relocate as needed.
It comes with teardrop-shaped pockets that hold the poles easily. That means you can pitch the tent all on your own. The included stakes are strong and durable for all critical points of the tent. Additionally, the colored poles mean orienting them during set up is straightforward.
Weather Resistance
The overall build of the Copper Spur HV UL2 creates a tight pitch. This helps the tent withstand relatively strong winds.
Additionally, the fly doors are quite flexible. They can be propped open using trekking poles and guyline, which creates an awning. The configuration is perfect for keeping you protected and comfortable during hot and humid days. You can even adjust it for different types of weather conditions and privacy preferences.
Small features also help the tent protect you during wet weather without sacrificing comfort. For example, the flap over the fly zipper ensures that water will not seep through. The large event overhead prevents condensation, especially when the tent is closed off.
Durability
The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 does a great job of providing durability while making sure that it is light enough for backpacking. While it is not exactly the most rugged out there, the fabric is quite strong and will prevent accidental tears.
The pole construction is well-designed and sturdy, which further protects the tent from damages. The Copper Spur HV UL2 will last for a long time as long as you treat it well. If you have kids with you or pets, you may want to add another layer that will protect the nylon floor.
Weight & Packed Size
The tent is just a little over three pounds. It does an excellent job of providing as much interior space without the additional heft. Splitting the weight between two people virtually makes the tent weightless.
Its packed size is just about 19.5 by 6 inches, which allows more room for other supplies and gear in your bag. Also, you can easily pack it without the help of another person. If you have the budget for a custom footprint, then you can take advantage of the fast-pitch option.
